Drawing deCentered
Drawing deCentered is an artist-led collective and platform for contemporary drawing, founded in 2016 by Irish artists Felicity Clear, Kiera O'Toole and Mary-Ruth Walsh. The collective emerged in response to the absence of a dedicated drawing centre in Ireland and operates as a nomadic, geographically dispersed group working from the peripheries. Their collaborative practice explores how we sense, register and are shaped by the spaces and environments we inhabit, realised through large-scale drawing, 3D installation, experimental animation, thread wall drawing, collage and mixed media.
Drawing deCentered functions as both an artistic platform and an informal archive, providing online and onsite space for the exploration of contemporary drawing practice. The collective probes drawing's intrinsic and expanding characteristics — working inside and outside the white cube — and invites artists, curators and arts writers to feature their practice through the platform's website and Instagram, advocating for a critical, experimental and spatial understanding of drawing as a living field.
Central to Drawing deCentered's work are collaborations with national and international practitioners, researchers and educators. In 2024 and 2025, the collective presented exhibitions at DAS Esszimmer, Bonn, FRISE Künstler*innenhaus, Hamburg, and other European venues, with support from Culture Ireland programme. Their objective is to raise the visibility of contemporary Irish drawing in Ireland and across Europe through critical contexts, multidisciplinary approaches and sustained international partnership.
